Chapter 2 Science Class 4: Questions 1,2,3 PTBB, Pakistan

 SLO's Topics covered in questions.

 "ECOSYSTEM"

Question:1

Recognize an Ecosystem?

or

Define an ecosystem?

or

What is ecosystem?

Answer:

The living and non-living components of any environment make the ecosystem. They effect to each other. For example forest, grassland, river, pond, desert, ocean etc.

Question: 2

Are the living organisms affected by non living things?

Answer:

Yes, living organisms  are affected by non living things such as sunlight, water, air, soil etc.

Question: 3

Are the seeds living things?

Answer:

Yes, because they contain an embryo.

Question: 4

Why are habitats of living organisms different from one another?

Answer:

Habitats of living organisms are different from one another because they have different needs for survival.

Question: 5

Explain Biotic components and its linkages?

Answer:

The living components of an ecosystem are called biotic components. For example plants, animals and humans.

(i) Plants(Producers):

Plants produce food for animals, humans and themselves. For example herbs, climbers, shrubs and trees. Aquatic plants and algae are also producers.

(ii) Animals and Humans (consumers):

The living things which obtain food from other living things are called consumers. Animals and humans are called consumers.

Question: 6

Explain Abiotic components and its linkages?

Answer:

The non living things of an ecosystem are called abiotic components.

Linkages:

For example temperature, air, water, light and soil. These components play an important role in making food and life for living things.

Question: 7

Analyze the way these constituents bio and abio components create a balance to sustain any ecosystem?

Answer:

The sun is the main source of energy in an ecosystem. The plants make food with sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. Plants produce oxygen that is used by animals and humans. Animals and humans produce carbon dioxide which is used by plants. Such self sustaining and durable ecosystem is called a balanced ecosystem which is very essential for a stable life.

Question:8

Describe the role of living things in food chain?

or

Define carnivores, herbivores and omnivores with examples?

Answer:

To obtain food living things depend on one another. Plants make food with sunlight, water and carbon dioxide. The animals which eat plants are called herbivores like rabbit, goat, deer, cow.

The animals which eat other animals are carnivores like tiger, crocodile, wolf and shark etc.

The animals which eat plants and animals are called omnivores like humans, birds, bear and crow etc.

Question:  9

Define food chain?

The series of eating and being eaten in an ecosystem is called food chain.

Question: 10

Write few food chains?

Plant → grasshopper → Rat → owl

Carrot → rabbit  → fox → lion

grass  → grasshopper  →frog  → snake → peacock
